Electrician for Home Extensions & Renovations in Bristol

From design consultation through to final testing, we provide complete electrical installations for extensions, loft conversions, and whole-house renovations. NICEIC approved and fully certified.

Electrical Services for Extensions & Renovations

A home extension or renovation is one of the biggest investments you can make in your property, and getting the electrical installation right is essential. Whether you are adding a single-storey rear extension, converting a loft, or renovating an entire house, the electrics need to be carefully planned and installed in two distinct phases — first fix and second fix — to integrate with the build programme and meet current wiring regulations.

During the first fix stage, we route all cables through the structure before the walls are plastered. This includes running circuits to every socket, switch, and light fitting position, as well as dedicated supplies for cookers, showers, immersion heaters, and any other high-demand appliances. Backboxes are fitted, and cables are clipped and supported to the required standards. Getting the first fix right is critical, as any mistakes at this stage become much harder and more expensive to correct once the plastering is complete.

The second fix takes place after plastering and decoration. We return to connect and install all sockets, switches, light fittings, extractor fans, cooker connections, and the consumer unit. We then carry out comprehensive testing of every circuit to verify the installation is safe, correctly wired, and compliant with BS 7671. For loft conversions, kitchen renovations, and bathroom refurbishments, we ensure all special location requirements are met — including correct zoning in bathrooms and appropriate IP-rated fittings where required.

MB Electrical holds NICEIC Approved Contractor status — the highest tier of NICEIC accreditation. Unlike the Domestic Installer scheme held by many electricians, Approved Contractor status requires regular assessment of competence across domestic, commercial, and industrial electrical work, giving you confidence that every job meets the highest professional standards. All notifiable work is self-certified and registered with your local Building Control on your behalf.
